Handle with twelve rows of scales.
Rectangular crossguard, earlobes chiselled with a Phrygian cap in relief.
Three guard branches, two of which end in brass buttons.
Straight blade with a central ridge.
Brass scabbard, two ring loops; half-moon pommel with palmette.
The École de Mars was a school that taught military and civic customs during the French Revolution.
Jacques Louis David is credited with designing these unique swords, inspired by classical models from the Roman Empire. They were awarded to graduates of the École de Mars. This school provided military and civic education from 1 June 1794 to 23 October 1794.
