"Monoxyl Box – Carved Wood – Folk Art – Auvergne – Box – Chest – Primitive Art"
Dating: Second half of the 19th century Origin: France – Auvergne - Cantal Restoration: late 19th century (front lid and stop consolidated by three nails) Monoxyl box in carved wood, decorated on all its faces with deeply incised geometric ornamentation. The decoration combines circles, crosses, rosettes and chevrons, inscribed in a simple rigor but with a strong expressive intensity, typical of Auvergne folk art. The sliding lid, consolidated by three nails at the end of the 19th century, testifies to the continuity of use of the object and the desire to preserve it. This ancient intervention, legible but discreet, reinforces its authenticity and its domestic history. With its sober lines and its clear incisions, this box goes beyond the utilitarian function of container to establish itself as a true popular sculpture. It embodies the aesthetics of simplicity and sure gesture, on the border between object of everyday use and primitive art. Condition: deep patina, traces of old wear, restorations visible on the lid. Stable and coherent set. Dimensions: Length 26 cm – Width 14 cm – Height 10 cm Delivery: ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
