"Museum – Salt And Pepper Shakers – Carved Wood – Eiffel Tower And Heart – Folk Art – Auvergne"
Late 19th century - Dated 1890 France – Auvergne – Massif Central - Haute-Loire Rare salt and pepper shaker in carved wood, depicting a miniature Eiffel Tower surmounting two symmetrical cups. The inscription "1890" engraved on the base places the object in the time of the Universal Exhibition in Paris, only two years after the inauguration of the great iron lady. Under the tower, a small hollowed-out heart recalls the tender and discreet gesture of the craftsman: perhaps a husband or a fiancé returned from the capital, offering his wife or fiancée this loving souvenir of a shared journey. This rustic object, both naive and refined, condenses all the emotion of an era where wonder at large modern buildings mingled with the intimacy of village homes. The contrast between the slender silhouette of the Eiffel Tower and the simplicity of the two containers reveals the popular poetry of the countryside: translating an iron monument into wood, bringing a universal symbol back into everyday peasant life, and inscribing it in domestic memory through the table. Condition: very beautiful patina of use, surface smoothed by time, small chips and old cracks without fragility. Stable and homogeneous set.
