Small rectangular portable desk, mounted on a folding X-shaped base, characteristic of 19th-century travel furniture. Hinged opening top, forming a writing desk. Leather-covered writing surface, still present with its compartments and pockets. The top folds and the whole thing closes, allowing easy transport. This type of desk was very fashionable in England in the 19th century, particularly among officers, diplomats and high-ranking travelers. It allowed writing and correspondence on the move, while providing a safe and orderly storage space. Folding and portable desks are linked to the British tradition of “campaign furniture”, furniture designed to be carried during travel or military campaigns. Open: height 80 cm, depth 60 cm, width 61 cm, closed. Height 95 cm, depth 27 cm, width 61 cm
