"Carved Wooden Torch Holder: Venice."

Torch holder, depicting a Venetian gondolier. Second half of the 19th century. In carved, polychrome, gilded and silvered wood depicting a Moor dressed in a richly decorated tunic with a coat of arms, medallions, ribbons and scrolls. He stands on a half gondola, holding in his right hand the base * of a torch and a (restored) oar in his left hand. The gondola rests on 4 lion paws. Minor accidents and wear. Good condition. Marked "Venezia" on the left side of the gondola.
