"Engraving After Rubens – “the Birth Of The Queen”"
Dimensions: engraving 51 x 35.5 cm – framed 69.5 x 54.5 cm Pierre-Paul Rubens (1577-1640), original composition Jean-Marc Nattier (1685-1766), preparatory drawing Benoît Audran (1661-1721), engraver This print represents “The Childbirth of the Queen”, an allegorical scene inspired by Rubens and engraved by Benoît Audran after a drawing by Nattier. The composition celebrates the royal birth under Louis XIII, with the Queen surrounded by the figures of Fertility, Justice and the Genius of Health, in a richly symbolic setting. The copy offered comes from the Chalcographie du Louvre, as evidenced by the official dry stamp of the Louvre Museum at the bottom of the sheet. It is a later print (19th–20th century), made from the original copperplates kept at the Louvre. Very beautiful print, contrasted, strong laid paper, clean and clear print. Modern frame in light wood with glass. Decorative and historical piece, testifying to the know-how of French engraving after Rubens, and taken directly from the original copperplates preserved in the Louvre.
