"Songye Nkishi Statue"
An ancient male statue with a distinctively shaped head in the Songye art style. The head is elongated at the sides to accommodate the very large almond-shaped eyes which are half-closed. The nose is triangular in shape and the small crescent-shaped mouth sits above the small, protruding chin. At the top of the head is a hole into which a horn filled with magical substances was once inserted. The thick neck rests on broad, flat shoulders. The arms are bent at the elbows and the hands rest on the enlarged stomach which has a prominent navel. The legs are bent at the knees. Some small cracks (see photos) Height: 26cm Statue from the private collection of a person who worked in the former Belgian Congo from 1949 to 1958
