"Still Life Circa 1900: Grape In A Basket, Jam Basin And Bottles "
The painter Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville (1852-1941), famous for his adorable paintings of playful cats and his brilliant still lifes, shared with some of his colleagues of the late 19th century the particularity of painting under different pseudonyms. Gallien-Laloue, for example, abused the process. Indeed, certainly bound by stifling exclusivity contracts with a dealer, to escape and earn a little better living, they used fancy names, even going so far as to multiply them. It will even be noted here that differences are visible in the signatures of the two paintings offered on my page. Obviously this was not his primary concern. The speed of execution, the perfect rendering of the fruits, the well-balanced composition, the beautiful light which emanates from this work, replaces with brilliance all signatures It can be returned to its author without much doubt. The painting is presented in an original frame in gilded papier-mâché, a fashionable process at the end of the 19th century, which considerably lightens the weight supported by the wall. Excellent original condition. Dimensions of the work: 55 cm x 66 cm. The two still lifes can be sold together for 1450 euros.
