Marco Silombria (Savona, 1936 – Albissola, 2017)
Male Nude – Pencil and pastel on paper
45 x 70 cm
Athletic male figure, youthful and elongated, drawn with a firm, controlled line. The heroism of the body, inspired by Greek statuary, is reinterpreted through a Pop Art sensibility that enhances contours and volumes. Painter, sculptor, and graphic designer, Silombria moved to Turin in the late 1950s, collaborating with leading advertising firms and creating campaigns for Fiat, Facis, and Riso Gallo.
From the early 1980s, he turned decisively to painting, embracing openly homoerotic themes and becoming active in Italy’s first gay movement, FUORI!, founded by Angelo Pezzana. He also contributed to the creation of “From Sodom to Hollywood,” the first Italian gay film festival, blending his interest in the male form, mythology, and contemporary culture into iconic images.
