"Pair Of Monumental Gilt Bronze Vases – Alban Chambon, 1900"
Rare and prestigious pair of large gilt bronze vases with brown patina, mounted on a marble base (H. 80 cm), for a total height of 245 cm. Signed by the Belgian architect and decorator Alban Chambon (1847-1928) and produced by the Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles in 1900, this monumental work (Diam. 90 cm) features a Japanese-style decoration with floral motifs, cranes, geishas and four dragons surrounding the base and handles. These vases were created to adorn the Théâtre de la Bourse in Brussels. On the occasion of the Universal Exhibition, they were temporarily moved to be exhibited there. During this period, a fire completely destroyed the theater - these vases being the only elements saved from the building. Unique pieces, they testify to the eclectic and refined style of Chambon, famous for his sumptuous decors of theaters, hotels and palaces throughout Europe.
