After Giovanni Bologna – Bronze Mercury Sculpture on Stone & Bronze Base
A finely crafted bronze sculpture after Giovanni Bologna (Flemish, 1529–1608), depicting Mercury, the Roman messenger of the gods (known as Hermes in Greek mythology). Shown in his iconic pose, Mercury appears to fly through the air, lifted on a puff of air from the mouth of a cherub—sometimes called a zephyr—his winged feet and helmet aiding his ascent.
In his left hand he carries the caduceus, symbol of peace, while his right hand points toward Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. The sculpture is mounted on an elegant five-part stone and bronze base, adding stability and presence.
This dynamic and graceful composition captures Mercury’s lightness, speed, and divine energy, echoing the celebrated Renaissance masterpiece by Giovanni Bologna. Perfect for collectors of classical art, bronze sculpture, or mythological subjects.
