"The Astronomer's Child - Rare Gilt Bronze Clock - Early 19th Century"
Magnificent gilt bronze clock representing the allegory of knowledge: a young putto leaning over his writings, accompanied by a celestial globe and a sundial. This refined composition illustrates science, curiosity and the transmission of knowledge, themes dear to the Age of Enlightenment. Signed Lenoir in Paris, this piece is probably related to the works of Étienne II Lenoir and his son Pierre-Étienne, renowned Parisian clockmakers whose creations are featured in the collections of the Louvre, the Getty Museum and the Palace of Versailles. The chasing is of great finesse, testifying to the know-how of the clockmakers, bronziers and marchands-merciers of the time. An emblematic model of Parisian clockmaking from the beginning of the 19th century.
Condition : Very good overall condition, original gilding with slight patina of age.
