"Polychrome Wooden Sculpture - Saint Francis - 18th-19th Century - Spain Or Mexico - Glass Eyes"
Polychrome wooden sculpture representing Saint Francis of Assisi. The iconography here takes up the different traditional elements of the patron saint of the Franciscans; the outfit with a simple cord tied in three knots corresponding to the three vows (poverty, chastity and obedience), the tonsure of the saint as well as the book held on his left hand, where a flame which was fixed to it is certainly missing. Rather rarely, the eyes are here in painted glass. The face is very delicate. Note that a large part of the right hand is missing. This is a work from the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century. Originally from Spain or Mexico. Height: 25 cm approx. Shipping worldwide, with care and speed.
