Jacques Cazotte, (1719-1792) was an advisor to the king in his councils, general commissioner of the navy (1760), member of the Academy of Sciences and Belles-Lettres of Dijon (1763), mayor of Pierry (1790), French man of letters, owner of the Château de la Marquetterie from 1760 to 1789. He died guillotined on the Place du Carrousel. His most famous work remains The Devil in Love.
