"Cart on a path in Provence"
Oil on canvas,
Signed, dedicated "Friendly souvenir to my friend Romani" lower right,
Beautiful work by the Marseille painter Joseph Garibaldi which represents a cart on a path in Provence, most likely in Vaucluse where the artist loved to paint. The artist played on the play of light and the contrasts of colors in order to transcribe the atmosphere of a summer day in Provence. The effects of the sky, with its clouds, are particularly well done.
A student of Antoine Vollon in Marseille, Joseph Garibaldi exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1884 to 1926 where he enjoyed great success and received several awards. He also frequented the exhibitions of the Association of Marseille artists. He painted views of the shores of the Marseille region, notably Cassis where his friend the painter Marius Guindon attracted him. His specialty remains the views of the old port of Marseille with its lively quays.
Note: Presence of cracks and old restorations visible on the back.
Dimensions: 46 x 38.5 cm without its frame and 60 x 53 cm with its modern gilded wood frame.
