Polychrome statuette representing the Immaculate Conception, as depicted by the female figure standing on clouds with putti or cherubs at the base.
The statue represents the Virgin Mary, preserved from original sin from the first moment of her conception.
This iconography is common in Catholic art, especially after the proclamation of the dogma by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on December 8th and is one of the most important Marian feasts in the liturgical calendar.
