Georges Lucien Guyot (1895-1973) Art Deco Lioness
Beautiful original print from the Art Deco period circa 1937 on vellum paper signed lower right GUYOT (Georges Lucien Guyot 1895-1973). Quality frame, good general condition. Dimensions 43 cm X 35 cm
Belonging to the group of Twelve since 1931 – with François Pompon, Paul Jouve and Jane Poupelet –, Georges-Lucien Guyot will be one of the best interpreters of wild animals, in particular the big cats of the jungle. He devoted his entire career to animal sculpture, he patiently studied and observed the beasts, fixing their familiar attitudes in his sculptures, but also in his graphic works and his medals. Tirelessly roaming the paths of the Jardin des Plantes and the Museum, he never ceased to perfect his anatomical and postural knowledge of animals. Georges Guyot began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in the 1900s. After the First World War, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1920 and became a member of the Salon d'Automne in 1925. He also exhibited his works at the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon des Animaliers. He belonged to the "Group of Twelve" created on the initiative of Pompon, at the Jardin des Plantes. Among his works, we particularly know his "Great Bear" from the Jardin des Plantes, his "Two Seated Gorillas" from the Palais de la Découverte and his bronze group "Horse and Dogs" which decorates the large pond of the Palais de Chaillot in Paris.
