"In Mexico By Agapito Labios (1898-1996)"
Very beautiful work by the Mexican artist Agapito LABIOS (1898-1996). It is an Oil on canvas signed lower left and measuring 60 x 46.5 cm (68 x 54 cm with its frame). The work has a tear, visible in the photographs. Agapito LABIOS is a famous self-taught Mexican artist. Having taken part in the Mexican Revolution of the 1910s and 1920s, he was imprisoned and began painting the walls of his prison. The mayor of the city of Pachuca noticed his work and asked him to paint portraits of his two granddaughters, which was the beginning of his career. The artist sold his works at the La Lagunilla market in Mexico City on Sundays and then opened his own gallery. Works by Agapito LABIOS were included in the sale of the estate of Katharine Hepburn on June 10, 2004 at Sotheby's New York (5 works, sold for $8,400). Free delivery in Paris is possible.
