"Bourdin (nicolas) - l'Uranie By Messire Nicolas Bourdin. 1640, Binding With The Author's Coat Of Arms."
BOURDIN (Nicolas) - The Urania of Messire Nicolas Bourdin, knight, lord of Villennes: or the translation of the four books of the judgments of the stars of Claude Ptolemy. Paris, Chez Cardin Besongne, 1640; in-12, 44 ppnch. + 432 pp., full calf binding, spine with 4 raised bands, marbled edges, fillets on the covers with the author's coat of arms bearing the coat of arms "Gratae Virtubus Avorum Regibus Illa", with three deer heads in the shield. Bookplate, blind stamp with the coat of arms of Salm. There is little information on Nicolas Bourdin (1583-1676), Marquis of Villennes, apparently he came from a Berry family, and was a protégé of Gaston d'Orléans. He would have been governor of Vitry-le-François in 1676. Rare work on astrology which is also one of the rare translations of the 4 books of Ptolemy. A few copies with the author's coat of arms have passed through public sale. This book could have been printed by the author and bound with his coat of arms to be a gift copy.
