Group Of 9 Erotic Shell Cameos, Italy, 19th Century
Set of nine tiny shell cameos, carved in relief with different erotic scenes.
Each cameo depicts a young man and a young woman in explicit amorous poses, inspired by the famous antique models of the "spintriae," small Roman tokens depicting sexual scenes, probably used as symbols or "passes" in the pleasure houses of ancient Rome.
These delicate compositions, of explicit but refined taste, are ideal for mounting on gold rings or pendants, thus becoming curiosities and precious collector's items.
