Brown glazed terracotta ewer called "demoiselle d'Avignon" or Çanakkale from the name of the Turkish port where it originates. There are two models, male (closed spout) and female (open spout) in different colors.
This is a male decorated with stylized flowers and pastillages in relief.
Period: 19th century.
It is in good condition, no cracks, slight wear from use and time.
The young ladies of Avignon were imported and came from the Turkish alcohol trade.
They were sold at fairs in the south of France, notably at the Beaucaire fair during the 19th century.
