Painted by Miss Augustine des Cars in 1935, aunt of the great writer Guy des Cars (1911-1993).
This painting comes from the Château de Sourches* in Saint Symphorien in the Sarthe which belonged to the Cars family from 1845.
*During the Second World War, in 1940-1945, the vast vaulted cellars of the château, requisitioned by the French State, were used to protect the large paintings of the Louvre Museum and certain furniture from the Château de Versailles, the Bayeux Tapestry and several important private collections belonging to Jewish families (David-Weill, etc.).
