Suzanne Ramié Vase - Madoura Workshop

Sublime vase by French ceramist Suzanne Ramié (1905-1974), Atelier MADOURA (Vallauris). Marked under the base Madoura Plein Feu. Magnificent work on this ceramic created around 1950. It is in perfect condition.

Suzanne Ramié trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. She began her career as a textile designer in Lyon before moving to Provence in the mid-1930s. She learned the art of ceramics with the potter Jean-Baptiste Chiapello and then founded the Madoura workshop in Vallauris in 1938 with her husband Georges Ramié, an acronym composed of the first letters of the words maison, Douly and Ramié. Breaking with the tradition of utilitarian objects produced by local potters, she produced works with refined and original forms and became one of the key figures of Vallauris. She is also known for her artistic links with Pablo Picasso, whom she welcomed into her studio in 1946 and to whom she taught the art of enameling and clay firing.
