"Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979), Toys, Lithograph On Vellum Signed, Artist's Proof "
SONIA DELAUNAY (1885-1979), born Sophie Stern or Sara Illinichtna Stern on November 14, 1885 in Gradizhsk, Ukraine and died on December 5, 1979 in Paris, was a French painter of Ukrainian origin. After a Fauvist period that was undoubtedly inspired by Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, she invented, with her second husband, Robert Delaunay, a form of painting that Apollinaire defined by the vague term Orphism, which did not correspond to any real trend. Sonia and Robert Delaunay worked together mainly on the search for pure color and the movement of simultaneous colors, a trend that inspired other painters after them, notably Fernand Léger and Jasper Johns. Portuguese Toys, 1970 Color lithograph, on vellum, justified artist's proof and bears a signature on the right in pencil. Presented under a white mat, unframed.
