This sculpture has an old golden polychromy on a black background on the collar and sleeves.
It would be Saint Bernard of Clervaux who here has his two attributes: the book he holds in his right hand and his Cistercian monk's habit. He is the founder of a monastic order.

Has a hook on the back.
He is missing his left hand.
A hole is located in the center of his skull on the upper part.
Visible cracks on both sides.
From the 17-18th century.
As is.

Dimensions: 105 x 40 x 30 cm

(1090-1053)
Coming from a noble family, Bernard became a monk in the Cistercian abbey of Cîteaux in 1113. He founded the abbey of Clairvaux in 1115. Under his direction, the abbey of Clairvaux developed considerably and became the most eminent abbey of the Cistercian order. The rumor that Bernard performed numerous miracles and his eloquent sermons attracted many pilgrims. His personality and spirituality had a considerable influence on the Christian West. He intervened in public affairs and advised princes, bishops, and popes. He is said to have written the rules of the Knights Templar. In 1146, Bernard began preaching for the Second Crusade. The failure of the crusade was a great disappointment for Bernard. He died in 1153 and was canonized in 1174.
