A rare covered sugar bowl from the Chamberlain Worcester factory, circa 1815, decorated with the famous "Dragon in Compartments" (ornament) design. The body and lid are divided into gilt compartments, decorated with a stylized dragon, fantastical beasts, and vivid bouquets in the Regency palette. The design is inspired by Chinese porcelains of the Kangxi period, but is distinguished by its refined English interpretation. At that time, the factory was owned by the Chamberlain family, pioneers of innovation in English porcelain. The absence of a mark is typical for this type of piece. The "Dragon in Compartments" (ornament) design is among the most valuable and sought-after in the history of English porcelain.
