Chiseled and gilded bronze clock with the effigy of Erato and musical attributes such as lyre, zither and music score. Large base decorated with a low relief frieze of Erato surrounded by dancing musician Cupids. Dial inscribed in a library with floral decoration and Roman numerals. Thread movement striking the hours and half-hours. Period early 19th century. Height: 42 cm Width: 25 cm Depth: 9 cm Daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, Erato is one of the muses of Greek mythology, the muse of lyric poetry, in particular love and erotic poetry. She is often represented with a lyre and inspires poets and artists by guiding them to express passion and beauty.
