Statuary Marble Head Of Artemis - 18th Century - Italy
18th-century statuary marble head depicting Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt, the moon, and the wild. The goddess is depicted with an oval face, almond-shaped eyes, full lips, and hair reminiscent of 4th-century BC models. Artemis was a highly venerated deity in ancient Greece; in fact, her temple in Ephesus, with its enormous size and rich decorations, was considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
