Elegant gilt bronze clock in the Restoration style, dating from the early 19th century, illustrating an allegory of science and art in a refined composition. A young man seated in full reading symbolizes study or philosophy and the dial with Roman numerals integrated into a richly carved bookcase evokes accumulated knowledge. At its top, an oil lamp (attribute of Minerva) and a laurel wreath suggest the light of knowledge and intellectual glory. Finally, a terrestrial globe mounted on a column refers to geography and the discovery of the world. At its base, a detailed bas-relief of winged figures, busts, globes, an easel and symbolize the different artistic and scientific fields (visual arts, geometry, astronomy, music, etc.). It rests on its base decorated with acanthus and volute feet in the neoclassical style typical of the Restoration period.
