"Biblical Hunting Scene, School Of Salvator Rosa, Oil On Canvas, Late 17th Century"
The painting we present depicts a biblical hunting scene, perhaps one of the many hunts conducted by the patriarch Nirmrod, great-grandson of Noah, associated with the founding of cities such as Babylon and Nineveh and described in the Old Testament as "a mighty hunter before the Lord" (Genesis 10:9).
The sacred nature of the scene is confirmed by the presence of the putto, placed at the top left, holding the scroll with the Latin inscription: "Dirigor in praedam."
