The allegorical scene above the dial depicts Diana, goddess of the hunt, discovering the sleeping young Endymion, inspired by Greco-Roman mythology. The two figures in dark patinated bronze are rendered with great dynamism and attention to detail. Diana, armed with bow and quiver, rests her foot on a moving golden cloud, while Endymion rests on a rock next to his faithful dog, in a serene and idealized pose.
The circular enameled dial features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, signed Drouot à Paris, a prestigious Parisian manufacturer active during the Empire period. The gold hands are Breguet-style.
