Object description :

"Chalice And Paten In Gilded Silver, France, Late 19th Century "
Chalice in gilt silver, worked in repoussé, engraved, chased and guilloché. The stepped foot, highlighted at the edge by a frieze of pearls, has six lobes and forms a projection constituting a guilloché terrace with openwork frames. It is decorated with garnet-colored cabochons and adorned with acanthus branches in high relief, tightened by a toric ring at the base of the stem. The tubular stem has a collar and a very pronounced flattened sculpted knot, adorned with six buds decorated with four polychrome enameled leaves and stylized plant motifs. It supports a slightly flared cup and a cut and openwork false cup, with a waved edge, decorated with acanthus leaves and radiant biblical symbols: a flaming heart, the triangle of the Trinity, and the book of the Ten Commandments. This chalice is made in the neo-Gothic style. Hallmark: Minerva, title 950/1000. The chalice was made by the master goldsmith Léon Kaeppler (active in Paris from 1883 to 1903). A chalice of the same model is currently kept in Brittany, in the church of Saint-Maxent.Dimensions: – Height of the chalice: 25.5 cm – Diameter of the cup: 9.7 cm – Diameter of the foot: 14.6 cm – Gross weight: 482 gGilt silver paten attached: “Swan” hallmark, French control – Diameter: 13.8 cm – Weight: 138 gCondition: The chalice is in perfect condition, with minimal or no signs of use.Note: a small repair under the lower collar of the stem.
