JAPAN - Meiji period (1868 - 1912). Large rectangular box, the lid decorated in maki-e lacquer with a scene depicting three samurai in the open air of a forest; a horseman and two warriors on foot holding a standard and a naginata spear. Very fine lacquer work highlighted by metal inlays for the blade of the naginata and the horseman's dragon maetate. The reverse of the lid in nashiji lacquer depicts five geese in flight, three of them lacquered and two in chased, silver-plated and inlaid copper. The rounded uprights and the sides decorated with a watercourse, the border in silver. Excellent overall condition, slight scratches from use under the base. Work similar to that of SHORYU SEGAWA. Dimensions: 15 x 25 x 30 cm.
