"Chalice And Paten In Gilded Silver, By Demarquet Freres Goldsmiths, 19th Century "
Chalice and its paten in gilt silver – France, circa 1870 – By Démarquet FrèresChalice in gilt silver, worked in repoussé, engraved, chased and guilloché. The foot, highlighted at the edge by a frieze of pearls, has six lobes and forms a projection constituting a guilloché terrace with openwork frames, decorated with a stylized plant motif in repoussé bas-relief, in the middle of which radiates a cross. The tubular stem has a collar and a very pronounced flattened ball knot, adorned with six buttons decorated with four leaves as well as embossed polylobed frames, garnished with Eucharistic symbols. It supports a flared cup and a cut and openwork false cup, decorated with the same plant motif as the base. This chalice is made in the neo-Gothic style. Hallmark: Minerva, fineness 950/1000. The chalice was made in the workshops of the master goldsmith Démarquet Frères, located in Paris, rue des Gravilliers. Very productive, their works can be found in particular in Lourdes, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in Charente, in Corrèze, as well as in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre, where three ciboria of their manufacture are preserved. **Dimensions: Height of the chalice: 25.5 cmDiameter of the base: 15 cmNet weight: 400 gPaten by Cheret silversmith attached:– Diameter: 13.5 cm Weight: 144 gDecorated with Easter symbols, 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarkCondition:The chalice is in perfect condition, with minimal or no signs of use.The paten shows some signs of use, with slight wear to the gilding.Original transport box, in the form (showing signs of use).**Dictionary of Liturgical Arts 19th-20th century, Bernard Berthod Elisabeth Hardouin-Fugier, page 220
