Elegant carved wooden statuette representing a character in a prayer posture, hands joined in the gesture of the anjali mudra, symbol of veneration and humility. Probably a monk or a Buddhist disciple, kneeling on a stylized pedestal. Work from Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma or Laos), dating from the end of the 19th century. Beautiful old patina, with visible traces of original polychromy (ochres, reds and blacks). Authentic wear related to time, natural cracks in the wood.
