"Peynet's “les Amoureux” Love Medal, Round In Yellow Gold"
Medal pendant in 750/°° yellow gold (18 KT, owl hallmark) symbolizing romantic love par excellence, representing the famous “Amoureux” by Peynet. Raymond Jean Peynet (1908-1999) was an artist known as an illustrator / draftsman, painter, engraver, scenographer, trained in Paris. He began his career as an illustrator for the press. It was in 1942 that he created the “Amoureux”, a couple, a poet and his beloved, represented in all kinds of romantic situations, sometimes accompanied by a sentence, a dialogue, in the form of a caption, often tinged with humor. One of their most famous scenes is that of the bandstand. The poet is most often represented courting his beautiful. They are both surrounded by flowers, hearts, doves….. often in a bucolic setting. These lovers have been depicted on all sorts of media, including lithographs and etchings. This medal focuses on the two figures: the promise of love is symbolized by the flower that the poet delicately offers to his beloved, while their shared love is manifested by the winged heart that flies over them, surmounted by a glory. The realism of the two lovers is rendered by the cut-out effect, and makes this large-scale medal seem airy. The guilloché sunburst surround gives it brilliance and texture. By its theme and design, this medal evokes the happiness, lightness and carefreeness caused by shared love. The medal can be engraved by our workshops on its back, currently blank (on estimate).
