"Coffee Table By Mado Jolain & René Legrand, Circa 1955 "
A ceramicist trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs, Mado Jolain set up a studio in Montrouge in the 1950s, where she worked closely with her husband René Legrand. There, he designed the metal legs for their joint creations, blending functional structure with a free visual vocabulary. This rare side table is a perfect illustration. The understated, lightweight black lacquered metal base supports a removable top made of glazed stoneware tiles in shades of deep orange. The ensemble evokes Jolain's signature formal exploration: geometric compositions, vibrant textures, and a sunny palette. An emblematic piece from the Ateliers Jolain production, at the crossroads of ceramics and post-war decorative design. Mado Jolain Workshops, France, circa 1955.
