Head of a Young Man
Circa 1920
Bronze (Vindevogel foundry, Ghent) H. 18.5 (mounted on a 10.5 cm stone block, 29 cm in total)
Signed: Ach. Leys
This young man is handsome and smouldering. Normally, I prefer terracottas and plaster casts to bronzes, but in this case, I must say that the bronze, the patina, and the finish are magnificent. Achiel Leys's most famous work is the bronze Archangel Michael on the Saint-Michel Bridge in Ghent.
