Emmanuel Villanis (1858–1914)Lalla Roukh –
Rare subject of the artistSuperb and rare small bronze bust with three patinas, representing Lalla Roukh, one of the most singular subjects of the sculptor Emmanuel Villanis. This work perfectly embodies the elegance and sensuality specific to the Art Nouveau aesthetic, while evoking the literary exoticism that inspired the artist.
The character of Lalla Roukh is taken from the eponymous orientalist poem by Thomas Moore, published in 1817. She embodies a Persian princess, symbol of grace, mystery and oriental refinement. This rare theme for Villanis highlights his taste for idealized female figures imbued with foreign influences. This is an original edition of the Bronzes de Paris (period print).
The sculpture is signed on the left side "E. Villanis" and bears the stamp "Vrai bronze garanti Paris" on the back.

This exceptional bust, in perfect condition, is distinguished by the richness of its details, the finesse of its patina and its expression of great delicacy. Secure and professional shipping.
