Follower Of Maerten De Vos – Visitation – Oil On Copper – Early 17th Century

Scene of the Visitation, made after the original work by Maerten de Vos. This painting was the subject of engravings, which inspired many painters at the very beginning of the 17th century.

We find in this version the characteristic elements of the original work:

• Elizabeth and Mary in the center of the painting, their heads adorned with halos,
• The two men slightly withdrawn, one greeting the other by raising his hat,
• The building in the background, where a square tower with a tiled roof appears,
• The mountainous landscape in the background, of the Italianate type

The whole respects the Flemish Mannerist style that had been adopted by De Vos, with its slender figures in elegant poses and expressive gestures, the vibrant colors.

This painting is painted on copper. It is in good condition, clean, without recent alterations and without losses. It is offered in a modern frame in stuccoed wood, in the Dutch style of the 17th century.
