18th Neoclassical Male Bust In Modeled Terracotta

Male bust in modeled terracotta from the Neoclassical period, Italy, second half of the 18th century. AD monogram on the shoulder.

The bust, entirely modeled by hand, is based on ancient models: it has a strong torsion of the head to the right, a typical position of many Greek and Roman heads. We are in full Neoclassicism and the great enthusiasm for archaeological discoveries inspires artists to reproduce ancient sculptures.

The bust has a splendid original patina. Very good state of preservation, signs of aging.
