"18th Century, 18th Century Period"
Pair of rock crystal parrot candelabrasEurope, late 18th centuryElegant pair of finely carved and engraved rock crystal candelabras, each depicting a parrot perched on a round white marble base. Finely chiseled gilt bronze mount, with two twisted light arms decorated with acanthus leaves.• Total height: 31 cm• Some small losses.• Sold as is.Nota bene:These two examples are extremely rare: they correspond to the taste for exoticism that was very popular at the end of the 18th century. Similar forms can be found in the archives of the famous Parisian merchants-merciers – true distributors of exceptional objects at the time. The latter did not manufacture anything themselves, but selected, assembled and enriched objects from elsewhere (crystal, lacquer, porcelain, etc.) for a prestigious clientele. Although the attribution to a house such as Mercier is not assured, this style and this level of quality correspond perfectly to the work of these renowned merchants-merciers, who imported and promoted rare and exotic objects in the heart of Paris. Exceptional for: • Private collectors passionate about rare objects and 18th century ornamentation. • Decorators in search of a unique, refined and exotic decor.
