Japanese velvet embroidery by Yuzen-Birodo (天鵝絨) depicting a view of the famous Mount Fuji. In the foreground, we can see a house on the lake shore and two sailboats on the water.

The Yuzen-Birodo technique was invented by Nishimura Sozaemon of Kyoto in 1868. Velvet is woven by passing the threads through thin metal wires parallel to the weft, then cut to form the velvet. The precision of the cutting allows for a three-dimensional effect.
