Contact me at 06 78 87 61 61 Charles-Henri Contencin (1898 -1955) born in Paris but raised in the Bernese Oberland, he will remain a mountain enthusiast, member of the French Alpine Club, he joined the Society of Mountain Painters in 1929 and was its president from 1954 to 1955. He participated in numerous exhibitions: Salon des Indépendants from 1927 to 1938, Salon des Artistes Français, Salon de l'Ecole Française. He specializes in rendering light effects on snow and glaciers, and will create many high mountain landscapes, his favorite places will be the Ecrins massifs as well as Mont Blanc, its environment and the great Alpine massifs. Raised by his grandmother in the Bernese Oberland until the age of 10-12, he remains passionate about the mountains all his life. A good climber, he is a member of the French Alpine Club where he is the link with the Society of Mountain Painters (SPM). He fought in the Great War in the infantry and received the Croix de Guerre. He then worked in an architectural firm then at the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord and finally at the SNCF where he will be responsible for the works of art. Gifted for drawing, industrial and artistic, he took drawing classes at the ABC school of drawing in Paris. In addition to his professional drawings, he also designed posters and advertising leaflets for the railways under the pseudonym "Charles-Henri". He is best known for his mountain painting and left behind a significant body of work in this field. He joined the SPM in 1929, was its general secretary from 1950 to 1953, then president from 1954 to 1955. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des artistes français. He also exhibited at the Salon des indépendants, from 1927 to 1938, notably paintings representing landscapes of Haute-Savoie and the Midi, at the Salon de l'école française in 1932 and at the Salon d'hiver from 1945 to 1950. During his apprenticeship, he practiced by reproducing works by other artists such as the painting Campagne de France 1814, by Ernest Meissonier. He painted numerous canvases depicting mountain and high mountain landscapes of the great Alpine massifs, mainly the Mont Blanc massif and the Écrins massif. His palette is characteristic and he particularly appreciates the effects of sunrise or sunset on snow or glaciers.
