Asian tea set in hand-painted stoneware with reliefs using a technique specific to moriage porcelain. Rich decorations representing the goddess Kannon and the immortals, beautiful gilding ornamentation. The 3 serving pieces are topped with a lid decorated with a dragon head which extends onto the container. Each piece is signed in a cartouche of the famous Shimazu family who reigned over the lands of Satsuma. The set, probably never used, consists of 17 pieces, service for 6 people plus a spare cup and saucer. Note a chip on the internal neck of the teapot, not visible when it is covered (indicated by an arrow in the photo).
