In the 18th century, lidded pots like this were used to serve a variety of foods, including hot broths, cooked and cold custards, whipped creams, and syllabubs. This fine example is characterized by its elaborate decoration, consisting of floral sprays, touches of gilt, and a rich cobalt blue ground. It also has a domed lid, handle, and decorative melon finial, all in the Sèvres style. A beautiful, hand-painted, highly detailed early example in perfect condition with no damage.
