Rare Jardinière by Eugène Collinot in glazed ceramic, with Japanese decoration, made around 1870. Eugène-Victor Collinot (1834-1889), famous French ceramist of the 19th century is known for his work inspired by Islamic, Oriental and Japanese art. This rectangular piece with a blue background is decorated with birds, butterflies and fish. The interior is left raw, contrasting elegantly with the richness of the exterior decoration. The underside bears the handwritten signature “EC” and a number. Note a chip, see photos.
