Pier Claudio Pantieri (1927 - 2022) is an Italian artist born in Meldola and trained at the Istituto d'Arte per la Ceramica in Faenza, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. He began his career in the 1940s as a ceramist, influenced by Picasso and traditional wood-fired kiln techniques. In 1951, his works were presented at the Milan Triennale and the Rome Quadriennale. Alongside ceramics, he turned to painting, developing a neorealist style influenced by working-class life, before fully committing to painting and informal art in the 1960s. Pantieri exhibited in Italy, Paris, and New York, while remaining attached to his native Romagna. His work is populated by regional symbols, notably the rooster, which has become a recurring figure. He explored various visual languages, combining abstraction, allegory, and cubism. Several retrospectives have been dedicated to him, including those in 1995, 2011, and 2017 in Forlì and Meldola. His art can be seen in numerous public collections and venues in his region. Pantieri died in Forlì in 2022, at the age of 94. His career demonstrates great creativity, rooted in his native land, while opening up to international artistic trends.
