"Lively street in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful luminous work by the Avignon painter Joseph Meissonnier which depicts the rue du Grand Bourguet in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon. On the left, in the foreground, you can see the Saint-Pons church before its restoration in 2010. This rehabilitation project breathes new life into this historic building which today becomes a place dedicated to culture: the Saint-Pons media library. The artist was able to perfectly transcribe the play of light on a summer day in Provence.
A student of the painter Pierre Grivolas, Camille Dufour and Paul Saïn, Joseph Meissonnier exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1887. He regularly attended the exhibitions of the Société Vauclusienne des amis des arts and that of the Groupe des Treize.
Dimensions: 53 x 37 cm without frame and 65 x 50 cm with its original wooden frame.
