"Rare 18th Century Clock In Marble And Gilded Bronze – Signed “le Chopie à Paris”"
Magnificent 18th century neoclassical style clock, finely crafted in white marble and gilt bronze. It features a central putto beneath an elegant canopy supported by four columns. This refined model is signed: Le Chopie, in Paris, circa 1785. The circular architectural case is surmounted by a white marble dome and a conical finial surmounting a stepped, beaded cornice resting on fluted columns. The lower section is adorned with gilt bronze mounted Ionic columns. The two rotating hour rings are formed from individual enameled plates: the hour ring is adorned with Roman numerals, the minute ring is divided into five minutes in Arabic numerals, with the time indicated by a gilt bronze arrow at the front. The exposed movement rests below the dials on a star-shaped platform engraved with the maker's name Lechopie AParis. The visible inverted ticking wheel drives a sunburst pendulum suspended from a silk thread, placed at the back. The striking mechanism, with its star-shaped revolution counter, is on the bell.
